INTERNATIONAL PRACTICAL SHOOTING CONFEDERATION (IPSC)
IPSC is a dynamic and engaging Practical Shooting discipline conducted world wide. Stages are designed using different numbers and arrangements of targets which can be paper or steel, and moving or stationary. A score and penalties are kept for each participant.
These stages create a shooting "puzzle" that the competitor has to solve as accurately and rapidly as possible.
In IPSC, unlike other disciplines, each stage is different. The stages usually require the competitor to move away from the starting position to see and engage the targets, so an element of athleticism is also involved.
IPSC is scored a little differently to other disciplines as well, where the score is divided by time taken to complete the stage, so a "Hit Factor" is determined. Highest Hit Factor wins the stage!
In accordance with our high standards of safety at SSAA Glenorchy, only one competitor will shoot the stage any given time, and always under the direct supervision and control of a dedicated Range Officer.

WESTERN ACTION / SINGLE ACTION
Single Action is a multifaceted discipline that uses original or replica firearms commonly used in the Old West period of 1800 to 1899. This includes single-action revolvers, lever-action & slide-action rifles / carbines, lever-action shotguns, and side-by-side shotguns without automatic ejectors. The targets are generally reactive and vary in shape and dimension. SA shooters also preserve, promote and respect the skills, traditions and pioneering spirit of the American Old West, often adopting a shooting alias appropriate to the era.

RAPID FIRE
Rapid Fire is a Rimfire only event (using a .22 caliber pistol). In Rapid Fire the pistol is held in one hand only and fired in two sets of five shots each, at intervals of 8, 6 and 4 seconds.
Suiting those with steady hands, this discipline will test your accuracy, range fitness and also... its super fun!

CLASSIC AND ACTION 25 METER HANDGUN
Both Classic and Action disciplines are shot with handguns at a distance of 25 meters. Competitors may shoot revolvers, or semi automatic handguns in both Rimfire (.22 caliber) or Centrefire (larger calibers such as 9mm) categories.
Classic is 5 sighting (practice) shots, followed by 3 sets of 10 shots, over a 10 minute period. Targets are scored between each set of 10 shots, before the targets are patched and ready for the next set of 10 shots.
Action is a 30 shot match comprised of;
2 sets of 5 shots in 20 seconds, followed by 2 sets of 5 shots in 12 seconds, and lastly 2 sets of 5 shots in 10 seconds.
In accordance with our high standards of safety at SSAA Glenorchy, ranges are under the direct supervision and control of a dedicated Range Officer during Classic and Action Competitions.

Our Handgun range is open to new shooters for induction and for practice, coaching and training from 9.00am each Saturday.
A practice session is also available for more experienced shooters at 9.30am each Wednesday.

RIMFIRE (.22 CALIBER) RIFLE RANGE DISCIPLINES
At the Rimfire rifle range shooters may choose from a wide variety of disciplines including;
Air Rifle Silhouette - Using an air rifle competitors will knock down small metallic targets.
.22 Caliber Rifle Disciplines / Various long range distances
Rimfire Silhouette - knock down larger metallic targets.
Benchrest - shoot paper or metal targets from a seated position.
Rimfire Field Rifle - a match designed around the most commonly used hunting positions simulated at the rifle range.
3 Positional Precision - a match similar to Field Rifle but target oriented, and a greater test of a shooters accuracy and ability.
